Personal Finances

Just a general reminder why I’m so poor this year.

  • Paid off our entire mortgage - we own our home in full now
  • Bought a brand new car
  • Going for a crazy most expensive year end holiday
Yet everything else considered, we are financially more well off than ever.

Weird but I’ll take it wholeheartedly.

To more huat days!

How Do You Rationalize Trump?

 How do you rationalize Trump?

How do you hate a guy so much yet his antics are finally becoming a little more predictable and you are making truckloads of money off the stock markets because of him?

To a point where you feel bad for not pouring EVEN MORE money to make even more money?

Does that even make sense?

Feeling conflicted.

Another Windfall

Got another small windfall last month.

Mini yay!

The first thing I did was dump a small little part of it into our end of year family holiday flight tickets hahahahahaha.

Now to save or invest the rest of it.

One key chalk I’ve also recently completed, and very proud of it, is to accumulate a LARGE chunk of AUD foothold. As I’ve written before, I strongly believe the AUDSGD rate at current 0.84 is very undervalued and at some point in the future we should go back to parity. I hope this pays off.

My next big chalk is to accumulate Bitcoin. This is in progress.

Now what else should I do with my windfall?

Hmmm…

My Kids Keep Me Honest About My Finances

Having a lot of deeper conversations with my kids recently especially about them growing up, what they should study, what they should aspire to work as, what their life goals are.

Yet the way I see it, it is their curiosity towards how I have succeeded in my career and my own learnings and mistakes, that help keep myself honest about my finances.

I want to earn more money to live up to their expectations of how rich I am.

I want to invest well enough so I have something to leave for them, and gift to them.

I want to invest in enough stocks so I can talk to them about what they will ultimately inherit from me.

I want to earn so much money that I have the liberty to pay for their school fees, even when they qualify for overseas schooling.

I want to earn so much money that I can realistically walk them through large investments I make and they get to experience these processes first hand through me.

I want to earn so much money that I can gift them investment accounts that they can invest themselves and see the pitfalls themselves.

I want to lose less money so I do not feel the aches of losing money that could’ve gone towards my goals for them stated above.

I want to lose less money so I do not label myself a compulsive gambler.

These are the things that keep me honest with my finances and investments.

I really want to do and be better for them both.

First Berserker Rage Of 2025

 I went crazy.

Just threw money at NASDAQ KO Options on IG Markets.

Ended up losing 18K.

Such a damn shit stain to a stellar year in profits so far.

Damn man.

Dunno what got over me seriously.

Argh this is really so damn frustrating!

Reverse Berserker Rage

 Is this possible?

Everything I’ve stupidly gambled and punted on this month of March, I’ve made a profit.

Anyhow also it worked (of course not to the point I was deliberately trying to lose money) but making calculated fun bets here and there (short market, short TSLA, short Mag7, short USD, long defence, long AUD, long Gold). All short term mostly intraday bets.

ALL MADE SERIOUS MONEY!

More than made up for overall portfolio decline even!

I wonder if something is up - like I have to pay for it with my deteriorating health perhaps?

This is my third CONSECUTIVE profitable month in my Saxo account and I love it!

I dunno.

But let’s make hay while the sun shines and make the best of things.

Huat ah!

No More Mortgage

So last month I blogged about something massive brewing.

Basically we have completed full repayment of our mortgage last week.

It’s such a huge milestone for some reason, and each day nearing the deduction date by the bank felt like something or anything could go wrong.

I’m so glad we made the decision to do it and upon its completion, it really felt really good!

So yay to me and wifey.

Now we’re just waiting for the title deed to be confirmed returned to us in the digital registrar administered by SLA.

Did you know that based on the average private property mortgage size of 500K to 1M in Singapore, assuming 3% loan interest and 30 year tenure, you’d be paying between 250K to 500K in interest to your bank if you just stuck to your loan repayment schedule?! That’s about half your original loan amount that you will pay in interest! People just don’t notice it because they just consider their monthly repayments of 2.5K to 5K and see if they can afford it month by month.

No wonder the banks make so much money!

Anyway I’m not here to educate anyone or advocate anything, and having a longer loan tenure allows people to afford more now with their future earnings. I’d have to take another loan too if I were to buy my second property. I’m just being happy for myself that’s all. Yay little wins!

Now to aim for bigger things ahead.

Suffice to say 2025 has begun well. Let’s hope it gets even better!

Let’s go!

Huat ah!!!

Elon Musk And Tesla

You know I’ve been fawning over owning a Tesla Model Y for more than a year now.

Despite Elon’s stupid attention seeking antics in the past, I’ve never really bothered much nor let it affect my endearment for a Tesla car.

Even him buying Twitter and using it as a mouthpiece for his stupid thoughts and gaslighting ideas, I’ve not let it affect my wants.

Until now.

First his recent Nazi salute at Donald Trump’s post inauguration event.

Then he did it again.

And now he appears at Germany’s far right party, the one closest to being a Nazi party, to lend his support.

It just doesn’t sit right with me, and from the looks of it, many other people as well. That German Nazi party is a lot of things wrong with the world today. Maybe the world had gone too woke, too liberal. But the way Trump swept the US polls and inspired the swing to the right, is equally scary and ridiculous. Suddenly people are promoting male Alpha conservative lifestyles again, where women are overly subservient to men. Suddenly no one believes in science or facts anymore and can spout nonsense and blatant lies as the truth. Suddenly being always the victim is the way to explain all misgivings in the world.

It is very concerning and I do fear what is to come of the world in the next few years, under the Trump administration. Hopefully it is all bluster and not too much damage is done, but you never know, the world doesn’t need another Putin or Kim Jong Un.

God bless us all!

Anyway back to Tesla. People are now appearing to revolt against Tesla and for good reason.

I’m even wondering if TSLA is worth a short sell now.

And yes I’m not aiming to buy a Tesla Model Y anymore.

Good riddance.

Saxo Unfiltered 2024

Last week Saxo Singapore held our fantastic annual macro event, Saxo Unfiltered 2024, for our VIP clients and partners featuring the famous US investor, Jim Rogers! His insights into the markets ahead were really interesting and enlightening, peppered with his signature cheeky humour. Also great to hear the different speakers’ views and takes of the upcoming US Elections. A huge kudos to all our staff helping to make this monumental event in Singapore 🇸🇬 possible and special mention to our partners at CME Group for their strong and constant support.

September Is Ending

I did mention to wake me up when September ends early at the start of the month right?

Was expecting September to be a poor month.

Little did I realize that all things considered, I’m at the point of my highest networth ever.

No need to go into further detail but I guess that’s a good thing?

Of course still aiming to grow it exponentially much more.

Yet I ought to take a bit of time to appreciate these little things once in a while, especially in the hustle and bustle of corporate rat race where mine has become so chaotic.

Here’s to a better life ahead and even more wealth!

September Musings

I’m probably gonna jinx it with this post.

This month’s been quite good so far.

Staying away from FX.

NASDAQ swing trading has been doing well.

PSNY is pumping like up >100% in two weeks!

Other stocks are doing well.

STI closing in on all time high!

Recently bought into INTC too.

Hopefully more $$$ to come!

Huat ah!

CasiNO Sojourn

I’ve not been back to the casino at MBS for more than 2-3 years I think?

Last night was sad and high.

We decided to go in for a punt thinking how bad can the day get right?

Withdrew $1.2K to pay the $150 entry.

End up they don’t accept cash for the entry charge so tapped $150.

Started with $200 on 大 and lost it.

Then pooled $1K with everyone and let the most huat gambler amongst us wipe it all out.

Net loss for a night’s short visit: $1.35K

Now I’m even sadder :(

Fourth Berserker Rage Of 2024

Today was a very sad day.

And in that sadness, I gambled away a chunk of stupid money.

Both online and offline gambling.

Gosh I am so uncontrollable.

Ended up losing $11K.

All this while PSNY is starting to pump again.

Maybe that can bail me out big time?

Saxo Atlas Award

I won the Saxo Atlas Award way back in 2016 I think.

The Saxo Atlas Award is given to 5-8 employees globally annually to those who have gone above and beyond for the company.

Somehow found it lying in office and brought it back home.

Still brings me massive pride to have won it.

High Dividends

For some reason, April and early May have brought in bumper dividends and other passive income!

This makes me super happy.

I am wondering where to park them.

Should I reinvest the dividends back into the high yielding stocks? Or should I use this opportunity to buy new stocks that I can pride over the fact that the entire purchase was ‘free’?

Recently also looking at higher yielding UCITS ETFs to help balance things out, such as SHYU, VHYD, VHYL. They are listed on the London Stock Exchange and are more tax efficient. US stocks we always end up having to pay 30% withholding tax, which erodes whatever yield we achieve.

My dream is to be able to earn $5-10K of regularly dividends every month passively. Also where the dividends do not erode the NAV of the stock/bond.

Without going into the specifics of my current high yielding portfolio, I need to reduce its volatility and make sure I don’t blindly chase yield. This has happened to me in the past and I ended up being burnt. So definitely some lessons learnt and aiming not to let history repeat itself.

Let’s see if we can achieve that sooner rather than later.

Second Berserker Rage Of 2024

 Argh not again.

Last night was NFP and the market shot up.

I took a gamble again on USDJPY and was wrong.

I took a gamble on NASDAQ100 and was wrong.

Ended up losing another SGD 7K.

Gosh I need to stop bleeding financially like that.

Need to cold turkey myself.

Small Windfall

 Just received a small windfall.

Funny how things come along nicely.

Very grateful but it’s come right at the time when I might have one big expense upcoming.

So it is very timely.

I have to really derisk very aggressively.

Thinking of stopping all my margin trading altogether.

Just whack risky stocks at best. Search for more 2, 5, even 10 baggers.

Huat ah!
