High Dividends

For some reason, April and early May have brought in bumper dividends and other passive income!

This makes me super happy.

I am wondering where to park them.

Should I reinvest the dividends back into the high yielding stocks? Or should I use this opportunity to buy new stocks that I can pride over the fact that the entire purchase was ‘free’?

Recently also looking at higher yielding UCITS ETFs to help balance things out, such as SHYU, VHYD, VHYL. They are listed on the London Stock Exchange and are more tax efficient. US stocks we always end up having to pay 30% withholding tax, which erodes whatever yield we achieve.

My dream is to be able to earn $5-10K of regularly dividends every month passively. Also where the dividends do not erode the NAV of the stock/bond.

Without going into the specifics of my current high yielding portfolio, I need to reduce its volatility and make sure I don’t blindly chase yield. This has happened to me in the past and I ended up being burnt. So definitely some lessons learnt and aiming not to let history repeat itself.

Let’s see if we can achieve that sooner rather than later.

Bullish 2024 Ahead

2024’s tilt is towards a bullish stance.

Bar some type of major war on a global scale (I know there are worrying pockets all over the world right now), it looks like the global economy can chug along nicely.

Interest rates in the US are sufficiently high, with no increases in the horizon, means we are either going to see expected rate cuts or a surprise of zero cuts. In between the expected three cuts vs zero cuts, my personal stance is one cut this year and maximum two cuts.

Main reason for this is that inflation is going to be sticky. And we’re seeing exactly why the stock markets are heading up. Inflation also causes the stock market to go up.

So here’s my own hypothesis below and I am ONLY TALKING TO MYSELF SO THIS IS NOT ADVICE IN ANY SORT OF WAY.

This is bad of course because at some point, people will not be able to afford (people are cutting back heavily on spending since start of the year, layoffs in tech and finance is crazy high) >> consumer purchases will come down drastically >> companies cannot keep up with their overly inflated sales numbers >> flushed institutional liquidity has to invest to keep up with inflation and expectations >> PE will skyrocket >> bubble territory and ATHs.

We are in ATH territory already but is this a bubble yet? My opinion is that we are not even close yet. PE multiples are still not at euphoric zones and you have stocks like the magnificent seven (GOOG, META, AAPL, MSFT, NVDA, TSLA, AMZN) that’s powering into this year with overwhelming strength.

I also think it is a good time to load up on the magnificent seven but to be very nimble and be ready to sell when we are possibly at the top of the bubble. Of course we will never be able to time where this bubble is so chances are is I will end up buying at the high or selling too early. I am already DCA-ing regularly into a few of the seven, that’s at least my own strategy.

Meanwhile, resist the attempt to short the US markets all through Q1-Q3. Review again in Q4 and see where we are then.

Meanwhile, keep other portfolios separate!

Dividend portfolio should be kept separate. High interest rate environment has not been kind to it last year but this year it is already recovering and providing some token passive income so I’m glad that I stayed the course. Looking to grow it further as interest rates come down.

Cash portfolio is also growing stronger and this will serve as potential war chest or emergency funds if other portfolios do not perform well. Just save a bit here and there where possible and resist always replying everything into the markets.

Crypto portfolio is STRONG. Just stay for the ride, no expectations but this should 2x or 3x if everyone says BTC and ETH and where it’s supposed to go. Going into the new year up 30% is already a big yay.

Gambling portfolio stopped altogether in 2024 to save money. Lots of money to be saved here if I resist gambling at all and so far so good this year! Just resist losing money to stupid bets.

Hope to huat big big this year!!!

Cash Hoard

UOBOne. Max it out. 100K maximum in there nets you 5% pa when conditions are met.

OCBC360. Max it out. 100K maximum in there nets you 3.8% pa when conditions are met.

SSB. Max it out. 200K cap maximum. This period you can get >3% interest for 10 years guaranteed. Good to consider a ladder.

TBills. No cap but locked in for 6 months. This period you can get nearly 4% for 6 months locked in is really good. Only risk is 6 months later, interest rates might have dropped who knows. Good to consider a ladder.

FD in obscure bank. Fixed Deposits in those less popular consumer banks like RHB, ICBC, SBI or Maybank can give you around 3.5% now for a full year.

Just doing all this gives you free money, near zero risk. Again, seriously, NEAR ZERO RISK! And a lot more than what all these have netted you just 12 months ago.

What’s not to like?

Passive income at its best.

Shiok.

Wake Me Up When September Ends

Yay I get to wake up now since it’s the first day of October.

NGL yo, September has been rather topsy turvy and volatile all around, but IT HAS BEEN A GREAT MONTH all things considered.

Health, investments, overall networth, family, work. All good but I don’t want to go into details in case I jinx anything.

There was some downside when PSNY hit $2.18! OMG that was bad.

Thinking of starting my monthly dividend posts again next year.

Hopefully we can keep up this momentum and end 2023 on a super high note!

Huat ah!

Final Berserker Rage Of 2022

 Last trading day of 2022.

I lost 20K.

USDJPY long just didn’t work out.

OMG.

Eat grass liao.

What a shitty way to end my trading for 2022.

So sad.

Stopping the Monthly Dividend Report

Since I'm not pursuing that trading strategy anymore, I will cease to report on my dividends moving forward.

The March 2020 crash basically took me out of most of my dividend stocks.

I guess I must be doing it wrong.

Sigh.

2020 Dividend Accumulator July

Another month that has been relatively dry.

Right now the point is to shore up and reposition my portfolio to maximize potential in the coming macro environment while minimizing potential downside.

So dividends taking a backseat.

I have loaded up heavily on Gold, Gold miners and defensive stocks.

Hopefully this pays off as I pave the way to get back to a similar portfolio size as pre-COVID19 days. Expected to achieve this by year's end if things do not deviate too drastically.

17 July $22.12

27 July $115.07

2020 Dividend Accumulator June

Another month which I thought was dry, but there was a little something.

Always nice to have surprises like that.

Also got into a monthly dividend-paying BDC, PSEC, once more.

Hope to see some dividends on the board soon.

2020 Dividend Accumulator May

Notice that I didn't blog in May at all?

Actually it wasn't because there weren't any updates.

I just forgot that's all.

Anyway it is going to be a dry rest of the year on the dividend front.

May was good only because of a few one offs.

2020 Dividend Accumulator April

So April is the month I'm hardly earning any dividends.

Will have to start from scratch all over again.

Projectively it doesn't look too difficult to reach the type of AUM I had prior to the big drop and market low of March 23rd, it might take me a year or so.

That said, the dividends have now slowed to a trickle and will likely be so for the months ahead.

There might be months which I'd get zero maybe?

02 April $41.84
03 April $22.03
08 April $190.57
20 April $3.39

Total Dividends for April: $257.83

Total Dividends for 2020: $2,732.88
Average per Month: $227,74

2020 Dividend Accumulator March

March was the worst month ever in the history of my dividend portfolio.

And with that, I liquidated a very big portion of my portfolio while things were on the way down.

Along the way, four of my biggest dividend machines (MRRL, MORL, REML, SMHB) basically died (ETNs that got called or delisted)

So much for earning dividends anymore.

What's left to come will be dribs and drabs.

I'm not sure how long it will take for me to get back to that same level of dividend payouts.

Not even sure if 12 months is sufficient but let's see.

That said, in March I still received a little bit of leftovers of dividends declared in Feb.

So only in April will the poor payouts be reflected.

02 March $92.53
04 March $22.06
12 March $20.18
13 March $12.03
24 March $36.92
24 March $40.73
24 March $34.99
24 March $27.81
27 March $150.00

Total Dividends for March: $437.25

Total Dividends for 2020: $2,475.05
Average per Month: $206.25

2020 Dividend Accumulator February

As COVID-19 ravages the markets, and indices all go into freefall, I am expecting my monthly dividend returns to go down.

Feb has been a very dry month for dividends. Here's to a better March.

That said, I'm still hoping that monthly dividends are decent!

HUAT AH!!!

05 February $21.29
13 February $19.47
18 February $68.57
24 February $9.78

2020 Dividend Accumulator January

A new year and a continuation of this post.

Hopefully the dividends continue to increase steadily.

The world is very volatile now with so much happening, yet the stock market is charging up with new all-time high over new all-time highs. So it is pretty hard to find good dividend value.

But lets see.

January has started out really well with a super bumper dividend month to kick the year off! One single month alone raking in 25% of last year's total dividend numbers?!

HUAT AH!!!

03 January $48.27
06 January $179.23
06 January $21.29
08 January $19.14
13 January $204.00
14 January $19.47
20 January $25.41
20 January $28.80

28 January $295.18

2019 Dividend Accumulator Full Year

What a stellar year 2019 has been on this front.

I've finally seen some real serious passive income coming from this stream which I've worked hard to achieve. Considering how I've mismanaged so much of my funds in the last two decades, here's hoping that this new decade will ring in a much greater positive return for me. This year, I've managed an enormous annual dividends collected at almost SGD7K! Which is way above my 2019 resolution to achieve $500/mth passive income!

Here's my https://siglapscrapbook.blogspot.com/2019/12/2019-dividend-accumulator-december.html performance which was another good monthly one. The bumper month was actually October 2019 when I actually achieved more than SGD1K in dividends in a single month!

Just a quick recap, in 2019, my total portfolio achieved the following:

Total Dividends for 2019: $6,998.96
Average per Month: $583.25
Total number of stock counters holding now: 25
- Singapore (6)
- Hong Kong (1)
- US (17)
- Australia (5)
- Japan (0)
- Germany (0)
- UK (1)

So here's another pat on the back for myself.

Hopefully I can achieve much more in 2020.

2019 Dividend Accumulator December
