Final Berserker Trading Rage Of 2017

Just had this really bad bout of FX Trading rage yet again.

Kept shorting USDJPY as it kept creeping up.

Ended up losing SGD2,500.

:(

Hopefully this will be the final one of the year and maybe the final one ever?

Haha.

Sobs.

Finally Sold Sengkang

After our HDB rental passive income nightmare over the first half of the year, we’ve finally sold off our Sengkang unit.

It was not the lofty high price I would’ve wanted, but in hindsight this was a very good transacted price.

There are so many new launches in the north eastern part of Singapore especially the Sengkang and Punggol region, with more coming up over the new 5 years.

Coupled with how dense a HDB urban jungle that the place now is, how can prices appreciate any further?

I will cherish the memories, but when I own a second property again, it shall be a private one.

Hopefully it won’t be too long for that to happen.

Hurt ah!

SG Property Prices Are FINALLY Turning Up!

Trust me I look at this at least once a week.

The key indicator for SG properties is the East Coast, and where better than the collective stretch of older by-the-sea condominiums.

Over the last two months, listings have reduced. Not only is that an indicator that people are snapping up these properties, but because of the latest enbloc fever, there is a very likely chance that those property owners who've suddenly had cash windfalls are looking at a nice spacious seaside condo.

Mandarin Gardens 3-bedders used to yield 50+ listing on PropertyGuru just 3-4 months ago. Now it's drastically down to 20+ and when sorted by lowest price, the minimum is at $1.45mil. Previously as low as $1.2mil for a very low floor was still possible.

Laguna Park is the biggest recipient of the Thomson East Coast Line (TEL), and the station is directly outside its entrance. Suddenly listings dried up overnight and everyone is asking for the moon. 12mths ago it was still possible to find a unit for $1.6mil.

Neptune Court is the lowest end condo of the three due to its lack of facilities. Yet it's unites are commanding almost $1mil when 4mths ago it was still possible to get $800k units.

Me And My Company

As part of the Saxo Sales Academy training, the final module was titled Me and My Company.

Possibly one of the most useful modules.

I really liked it.

Cashflow Worries

Buying a new property has brought a whole new set of problems.

Worrying about paying down the hefty loan.

Worrying about paying paying back what the wifey has had to stump up up front.

Worrying about paying for renovation.

Worrying about paying for furniture.

Worrying about paying rental for the remaining months at my present place.

Worrying about what we will receive from the proceeds of our other property.

Worrying about having to make this year's SRS contribution.

Worrying about saving money every month.

It's no wonder the white hairs are starting to appear.

August Performance Update

Another month, and another red figure.

Geez.

Maybe I have to quit all this trading and just save up my money in a savings account.

-15.1% for the year.

Laughable.

Spending too much time speculating on FX!

May Performance Update

Finally my first green month for the year!

Long may this continue!

Albeit a small increment but at least it represents a turnaround from the sea of read of the earlier four months!

Huat ah!

Am I Worrying Too Much?

I'm worrying a lot lately.

Maybe far more than necessary.

I worry for my kids' futures.

I worry for my own future.

I worry for Singapore's future.

I worry for the world's future.

What type of world will my kids find themselves in in 20 years time?

How long more will I survive in this company?

How long more can this company's business model survive?

How will my poor health slow me down?

How is Singapore going to remain prosperous for the next 50 years?

What is becoming of the world?

I have no answers, only worries.

Sad.

April Performance Update

Can't seem to get out of the red zone.

May doesn't look very good either.

Will I be able to break the duck and go green by the end of this month?

Hopefully so.

Dutech International AGM 2017

Attended their AGM last week.

This is a good company maybe previously still suffering from the tainted lenses of an S-chip due to it being headquartered in Shanghai.

It has grown from humble beginnings to what it currently is, a mini conglomerate with operations all over the world.

It is being led by Dr Johnny Liu, second from left on the table. His brother, Liu Bin is first from the left.

10 straight years of growth, with hopefully much more to come under his stewardship.

Hopefully I will see even more gains on this counter.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX)

Initiated a position on this US counter recently, at the $11+ region.

And it has been heading south eversince :(

Read a detailed history of this company here.

I have since averaged down, believing that at some point this counter will turnaround.

There have been alot of articles advocating a very bearish stance, but let us see.

You can read so of them here, here and here.

Hopefully they all end up wrong and I'm right! HAHAHA

Right now its last close was at $8.51.

Look at the chart over the last few years! Scary!

Second Berserker Rage Of 2017

Sigh.

It is difficult writing this. After the first time, I actually thought I had a better hold of my own emotions and discipline. Alas I was wrong.

This stupid rage came in two parts. The first was a stupid trade in Noble Group, the embattled commodities trader. After dropping in price for 3 straight days, I just decided to enter at a lower price out of sentiment (I have made quite alot of money from this stock previously) and who knew my price would get hit as it came crashing down spectacularly after being hit by more bad news. Total loss: SGD1,500.

Then at night, I get into this crazy FX in-out frenzy on USDJPY. Not the first time, but stupidly irrational. Total loss: SGD3,500.

In all I lost SGD5,000.

:(

Is War Upon Us?

North Korea is saber rattling again.

And this time, the US seems to want to do something about it.

It is sending an entire aircraft carrier group to the South China Sea as we speak.

Tensions are running high, with China, South Korea and Japan all trying to deliver measured responses to both sides.

Let's see what's gonna happen next.

Probably nothing.

March Performance Update

Yet another red month.

This is not going well at all.

Need to do something about this.

Thought I know not what.

Maybe I should take a one month no-trade break.

Afterall I've received a warning for exceeding my allocated number of trades (75) for both Jan and Feb and look at the outcome.

Cash Is King

The healthcare bill has failed.

Trump policy is failing.

The stock markets are at euphoric highs.

No one can predict if the market will still chug up slowly and defiantly.

Best to hold cash.

Wonder how many times I've been this cautious?

Oh SNAP

04/03/17 3:26PM

Oh SNAP

SNAP:xnas listed the day before to much fanfare.

They are the parent of popular app Snapchat.

Snapchat is an app that allows users to chat with one another, while ensuring that whatever is communicated is deleted the moment it has been read or seen. Even trying to screenshot ensures the other side is notified that this has been done. Think of it as a Whatsapp, WeChat or Line messenger primary function where all messages are deleted once they have been read.

It also has a Stories function which allows posting of anything that stay in the feed for a mere 24hrs, before being deleted.

Last night its stock price surged more than 10% for the second consecutive day, closing at $27.

I don't get it at all.

How is that appealing? Yet it seems like the millennials have been bitten by the Snap bug. There are a lot of young Snap users. Yet it feels as though a user of the app would be someone who had something to hide or secrets to tell. I dunno.

The company is not making any money yet.

Snapchat has nothing outstanding to speak of.

It's seems as though competitors are copying it's technology wholesale. See Instagram's recent release of Stories.

There does not seem to be any revenue or advertising opportunities.

Millennials are only using it because it is currently hip.

Perhaps I shall await the chance to short the stock.

February Performance Update

Another red month for me.

This is not exactly going well.

It might be time to hit the drawing board once more.

2017 Toto Hong Bao Draw

Another year, another dream.

Every year we simply speculate whether we would quit our jobs if we won so much money, whether how much was enough to retire in Singapore yada yada.

This year's $12 million draw yielded only a $10 win for my personal purchase. Will only check the office this coming Monday.

It was preceded by another $7 million Toto draw which I also won only $10.

I guess it is simply a case of 买一线希望!

January Performance Update

Who would have thought a late surge in JPY saved me somewhat from my terrible performance in January. USDJPY has dropped to around the 112.50 level.

This helped me recover some losses.

3.6% is not as bad but Feb hasn't started out well unfortunately.

2017 Trading Resolution

I wrote my trading resolutions last week and one of them was a trading resolution for myself.

Basically I wanted to achieve a 20% gain in my main speculative account with Saxo.

And it has not been a good start at all, with the following significant positions:

1) A large USDJPY short exposure hoping Trump's protectionist policies require him drumming up weaker USD rhetoric. This hasn't gone very well and is currently hovering around the 114.40 area as Japan tries to ease in order to meet its 2% inflation target.
2) A large VIX long via ETF (VIXY:arcx) which has dropped to some of the lowest levels with the US market on a tear upwards. Still holding out for a huge spike though.

Here's the poor performance thus far.

First Berserker Rage Of 2017

Pui!

I did it again.

I think the fault lies in the fact that IG Markets is an online gambling portal.

Also I have a gambling problem.

So combine these together and there is a very dangerous concoction.

A mixture of Spot, Sprint Markets, and Binary Options (now sneakily named Digital 100s, it all contrived to empty my bank account.

Total damage, SGD 2,000 within one day.

Put!

DJT Is POTUS

Following his shocking elections win, Donald J Trump is now the 45th President of the United States, after his inauguration last Friday.

How will the world change from here?

How can be benefit from the markets?

For one, we all know a lot of his policies will be protectionist.

I see a weaker USD as he starts to make US-made products competitive again.

I see a lot of trade deals revisions, leading to less globalized trading.

I see Asia being used as a pawn for many of his policies (especially China and Taiwan, but in part Japan and Korea as well).

I see a lot of conservatism coming back. Big pharma will prosper, defence will prosper and so will the banks.

I see the stock markets going through a lot of volatility, as the optimism is not matched by the actual earnings. Gold will experience a resurgence, the stock market will have more violent swings.

Anyway these are just my personal views. I am quite excited to see how everything plays out.

Setting SMART Goals

There has been a lot of focus on training lately and one of the key concepts is setting SMART goals.

This simply means:

Specific
Measurable
Ambitious
Realistic
Time-factored

Geddit?

And it really makes a difference when we all try to do this properly. The goals are so much more tangible and achievable.

Towards a 2017 of growth and prosperity!

Blogger App Is Down

Wow this will surely chase away a lot of bloggers off the Blogger platform.

The Blogger App is down and there are no suitable replacements. The top two replacements I've tested suck big time.

When I searched online, it appears that Google/Blogger has no plans to update or replace the app anymore, so latest iOS updates result in the app being unable to run, or crashing it easily.

Two of the key advantages of the app were:
1) Ease of posting - just open the app and blog and post, so easy! Going through blogger.com just meant trying hard to post something on a clunky small screen
2) Easy to post pictures - without the app, pictures are almost impossible to post

I'll try to make do with blogging with no pictures for a while more while considering making the switch to other platforms.

Sad!

Death By China

Just trying to get a better idea of how 2017 will pan out.

Peter Navarro was recently announced to be joining Donald Trump's team as head of the White House National Trade Council.
